The "grandparent scam" a nasty scam that tricks elderly people into wiring thousands of dollars to scammers is so lucrative it has been around for years -- and is still going strong! A few days ago, the mother of a Scenic Valley staffer was so concerned when a caller said her grandson had been jailed in a foreign country that she wired off more than $1500 to help him--while he was in the US, safe and sound. Never wire money to someone you don't know-- it's virtually impossible to get it back!

Thank you to the Dubuque Racing Association for awarding Scenic Valley with a 2011 grant to place announcements in local papers about our services for older adults. This generous assistance will make it possible for so many more persons to become aware of, and make use of the services and programs available for older adults in our area.
